Search Engine Saga: Part III
This month is the third part of the 3-part series “The Search Engine Saga.” We have been focusing on how to improve our search engine ratings. As mentioned in the past issues, Google should not be the only, nor the main focus for improving our search engine ratings.
There are a number of points we covered in the first two parts of this series. They included:
Let me share some ideas in how you might offer new content to your site on a consistent basis.
Online Newsletter
A regular online newsletter not only provides new content to your website, but it also keeps you in front of your potential clients-providing you place your online newsletter on your site. An online newsletter can be about almost anything that has to do with your business. It may be about upcoming events, or the latest ‘in the news’ updates, or a quick blurb about a topic related to your business. The possibilities are nearly endless. And, you don’t necessarily have to come up with the content yourself. There are websites that provide content for newsletters…and some are free!
Latest News/Upcoming Events
Another way to consistently update your site is to have a section on your home page that highlights the latest news or upcoming events. This is similar to the online newsletter, except you are not sending anything out-you are just updating a section of your website. You may highlight the news or events for the current month, or the latest sale items, or this month’s promo items. Again, what you highlight is up to you. What is important is that you regularly highlight something and post those updates to your site on a consistent basis.
Polls/Surveys
Another option to consistently update your site is to offer a different poll or survey each month. This keeps visitors coming back to not only participate in the poll or survey, but to see the results of the latest poll or survey.
Highlight a Client or a Product or a Service or a …
This is similar to highlighting the latest news or upcoming events, but with a different twist. You might consider highlighting a client each month. Not only does this do wonders for your client relationships, but it drives traffic to your site and keeps your site current. There are many different possibilities that you can highlight. (a product, a service, an employee, etc.)
This list is just the beginning of many different possibilities on how to provide up-to-date content on your site. There will be pages on your web site that may not change that much. Pages that deal with company history, or About Us, or Our Services/Products may not change much, but there are many different options you can use to provide content that requires consistent updating.
Having content that needs regular updates on your site is a win-win situation: updated and current content keeps traffic coming back to your site and attracts new visitors, plus it will improve your search engine ratings.
